Much has been written in these columns about the arrival at FC Torrevieja of Jose Agustín Soto García who returns to the club as manager after leaving in January just 6 months earlier. Reported exclusively by the Leader, a week before the news was broken by Tory, Soto returns from Caravaca where he was employed by the Tercera Grupo13 outfit as their Director of Football.

Despite speculation that CD Thader are about to fold Club President Jose Pedro told the Leader last week that the rumours are absolute nonsense. “Whoever is saying and writing these things is not a friend of the club” he said. “When we should all be working together to move the club forward such negative comments do not help”.

With room for 5 maybe 6 pistes this centre could prove very popular with local players, and San Miguel would be an ideal venue. The site will have a bar and toilet facilities, plus bbq area. Everyone was fishing hard under the intense heat of the day, especially Ann (I talk to the fish) Air who really excelled herself with her best weight ever of 23.510kg Well done!

For the last of this stableford competition we travelled to Bonalba Golf and Spa Resort. Some 27 members made the journey to this lovely course which is located off the AP7 motorway just up the hills from Alicante near the town of Muxitiemiel. The course was in excellent condition on this very hot day, (mind what do you expect in June though a breeze did come up and helped a little. Our numbers this time where a little down on normal as some twenty members and there partners were off on their annual trip to Vale De Este golf and spa resort in Almeria.

This week the society travelled to Bonalba to play for the Bonalba Trophy, the trophy as most will know is sponsored by Bonalba and gives the Two winners and runners up the chance to represent the society at the inter society event in September, this is a great imitative, one that other courses in the area would do well to consider. So many thanks to the management and all the staff for there consideration of the societies that patronize Bonalba Golf. Before I go onto the report I have to mention that ugly phrase, slow play, one of our groups finished 4 holes behind the game in front and spoiled the day for a lot of our members following at this snails pace. Members must realise they have a responsibility to keep up with the game in front not just in front of the game behind. The course was in its usual good condition with the greens as tricky as always and the work going on around the seventh green and eighth tee will take this corner of the course back a few years and make tee shot at the seventh more challenging once the new lakes are full up. Well done to all our winners on the day. Division One Winner Dave Aylard with 39 Points. Division One Runner up Graeme Allan with 36 Points.Division One 3rd Place Roger Clark with 34 Points. Division Two Winner John Prowse with 39 pointsDivision Two Runner up James Donnelly with 34 Points. Division Two 3rd Place Brian Thomas with 33 Points. Nearest the pin winners Holes 4 & 11 Greg Sharp, Hole 8 John Myszkewycz, Hole 14 Graeme Allan. The aggregate Par 3 Winner was Dave Aylard, Par 5 Winner Bill Burton. The Front /Back nine Winners were Div 1 Steve Hindle & Tony Hurley & Div 2 & Dave Cooper and Bill England. Diary: 4th July Roda Golf, 18th July El Plantio, 1st August Bonalba, 15th August Roda 4 Man Team Event For further information about the society contact Steve Hindle on 966 795 726 or Graeme Allan on 966 790 023.
Hi Readers I’m back and not too soon, there has been rioting, debauchery and downright anarchy in the ranks as they have not seen their photographs and names in the papers. Unfortunately I asked Harry the Hat, who asked Fagin who in turn asked the Vice captain and Treasurer to write this article but none had passed their GCE in handwriting and photography so nothing was said. I must apologise to the Newspaper if the absence of this article has affected their circulation, probably their blood has run smoother without the innuendos.

On the 25th of June at Bonalba Golf Club the Warblers played a team accumulator in conjunction with an individual stableford. A full compliment of 40+ members turned out in weather that was absolutely beautiful. A light breeze ensured we were not too hot. The staff at Bonalba were very welcoming on our arrival and the course was in very good condition making a very nice start to the day. The most difficult part of Bonalba compared to most other courses are the tricky greens, however, today they were a little slower than normal allowing players putting downhill a fair chance. The problems with the fairways seem to be long gone with lush colours and steady growth.

I was giving him three shots in match play, I pared the first three and was two up then three up at the turn, just the cushion I was hoping for. We got to dormy three and Roy won the 16th.

This year's Community Cup was held at the Emerald Isle bowls club and involved 11 teams of 5 players - needless to say, there was one last minute drop-out, as always seems to be the case. This time it was Benitachell who disrupted the organisation of the event by pulling out at the last minute, but as no action is ever taken by the ruling bodies, the same will no doubt happen next year and for the foreseeable future (the host club were actually guilty of doing the same last year).

In the Kings Cup we were once again away, this time at Monte Mar. Unfortunately the story was the same as last week and we only managed to pick up 3 points. Our two singles players, Beryl Jones and Alan Pugh, both lost by the same score of 11 to 21. Our pair of Bryan Eatough and Terry Hucknall were involved in a competitive game but lost by 13 to 19, the difference being a 6 won by their opponents on the 7th end. Our rink of Maureen Stacey, Pauline Murphy, Ken Garman and Mike Stacey won 10 out of the 18 ends but 3 fours gained by their opponents saw them lose 14 to 20. As last week our only success came in the Triples where John Hurlock, Jim Kerr and Barry Evans led throughout the game and ran out 28 to 10 winners.

Hopefully we will have lifted ourselves off the bottom of the Premier 20 - 20 League with our win over Greenlands on Tuesday evening, it was two apiece away at Greenlands with a win for the pairing of Jim Thomson and Len Daniels at 21 - 11 and the trips team of Gina Donnelly, Phil Richmond, skip Margaret Finlayson 19 – 11. It was almost 3 wins with Maureen Kidd putting in a great fight back in the singles to finally succumb to Joy Gardener at 18 – 21. A good performance from the team away from home, but it was our home team that did the business with 3 wins from 4 games. Jim Donnelly got us off to a good start taking the singles comfortably at 21 – 11, then the trips team of Reg Jackson, Jill Albutt, skipped by her other half John 19 – 12 and to finish, the rinks foursome had a thumping win 31 - 12 led by Jack Chorlton, Derek Shirley at 2, John Gardener 3 and skipped by Brian Zelin, so the final score was la Marina 10 points Greenlands 6.

Quesada Tigers Kings Cup - Wednesday saw the Lions at San Luis, a good day for us, only losing in the Pairs match by 3 shots. The 2 singles matches were both extremely close, with Tina Brinton beating Enid Chapman by 4 shots and Terry Lemon beating Mal Hughes by 1 shot on the 26th end. Congratulations on fine wins. After a slow start, a new Trips combination of Sheila Cox, Joe Brinton and Phil Bevan had a very good win 27 – 10. The Rinks was a much tougher game. Brian Trinder, Brian Houghton, Pearl Houghton and Bob Boby were neck and neck to a strong opposition and gained a well-deserved draw, 17 all. Despite going down 5 shots on the first end, the Prince’s Cup team of Margaret Smith, Mike Cox and Nick Birch came out the winners at 16 – 12. What a terrific result for Quesada Tigers!
